Ferragamo, presents: Chinese Object: Dreams and Obsessions, an exhibition
of contemporary Chinese art to be displayed in the company's gallery, located
in Salvatore Ferragamo's flagship store on Fifth Avenue at 52nd Street.
The exhibition, curated by Isabella Brancolini and Stefania Ricci, reveals the new developments of the contemporary art scene in China and is presented in concomitance with "Between Past and Future: New Photography and Video from China" at the International Centre of Photography (ICP), of which Salvatore Ferragamo is a corporate sponsor. The ICP's exhibition, in collaboration with the Asia Society, offers America the first comprehensive, interpretive survey of contemporary art from China. The Ferragamo's exhibit presents artists who draw inspiration from the tradition of the Chinese object as a metaphor, a dream of the past merging with contemporary concerns and obsessions. These artists communicate aspects of their individual experiences in relation to global transformations, personalizing objects and alluding to the lives of a people affected by sudden social and cultural change. Chinese Object: Dreams and Obsessions presents Ai Weiwei, Hong Lei, Hong Hao, Lin Tianmiao, Liu Jianhua, Yin Xiuzhen, Wenda Gu, Wang Jin, Wang Gongxin, Huang Yan, Yang Zhengzhong, eleven artists working in different media, including photography, sculpture, painting and installation. The ICP's and the Asia Society's exhibition will share several artists with that of Ferragamo: Hong Hao, Hong Lei, Lin Tianmiao, Ai Weiwei and Yin Xiuzhen |
