This "satellite exhibition" ran concurrently with the Shanghai Biennale in Shanghai in 2000. Curated by the late scholar Hans Van Dijk, it marks one of the highlights of this prolific scholar/curator's work in China over the last 15 years of his life.

More historically oriented was "Portraits, Figures, Couples and Groups" at the new Bizart art space, selections from the Modern Chinese Art Foundation, curated by Hans van Dijk. The unifying theme of portraits links artists as disparate as Cultural Revolution-era photographer Wang Shilong, post-Tiananmen "Cynical Realist" painters like Liu Wei and newly emerging artists like Zhuang Hui and Zheng Guogu.
