Guo Wei     郭伟

1960 born in Chengdu, Sichuan province
1990 graduated from the print-making department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Chongqing, Sichuan province
Works and lives as independent artist in Chengdu

Guo Wei has exhibited internationally since 1988 and is recognized as one of the leading artists to have graduated from the elite Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. His compositions are remarkably realistic, resembling photographs, yet upon closer inspection, reveal disturbing distortions and indistinct facial expressions that may surprise the viewer. His latest works are executed in monochromatic tones that intimately depict the subject of his daughter and friends and seem to capture their youth. He is represented in numerous institutions including the Gori Foundation, Florence, Italy; the Guy and Miriam Ullens Foundation, Brussels Belgium; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, USA.
